So in Latvia ‘Vista’ means ‘Chicken’, Playa + Chicken – synonyms to me!

Ah, the knuckle rings from Lady G (Ah ha, thats a nice new nickname for her). If the shoe fits, wear it? Clearly this does not fit, which is cool because I don’t think it’s quite my style, anyways.

I don’t know what the story is with the ballerina here- and I *think* I snapped this in Santa Monica, so if anyone knows, let ME know.

I got a kick out of these plastic people signs. You love them too- admit it!

The pictures tell the story themselves, but my short commentary is…..picture 1, definitely a representation of Marilyn Monroe I haven’t seen before , picture 2, I like that there are not one, but 2 prominent callouts for pepper spray. Must be really safe around here…back east you’d be hardpressed to find anywhere that even sells pepper spray. Picture 3- fine art mural- WIN! Last pic, Chrysalis, the non-profit out here I am the most intrigued/interested in. I can’t wait to go to a butterfly ball there! They are an organization that works with area homeless. Check em out. Their cool website. Not shown in the pictures- there is a guy there that is dressed head to toe in pot paraphanelia, and instead of people walking up to you wanting to talk about greenpeace, they want to talk to you about greengreen. ‘Step inside, see if you qualify for medical ‘. Final verdict- Venice Beach- I couldn’t picture myself spending a lot of time here, but it’s still an interesting place.

Beat it at the club

Ten years of the Choreographer’s Ball. Kudos to Carey, Kimo, Paulette, DMK and all involved. Carnival takes place once a month in NYC, Los Angeles and internationally as well- Tokyo, London & Sydney and its a great way for choreographers to showcase their work. I heard about it back in, eck, 1999 or so, so when it started it looks like, and I’ve been to my first two shows and have really enjoyed them! Saw Debbie Allen, Supercrew, the Groovaloos, and boatloads of supa dancers and choreographers! Next month Kmel will be performing. Got to see my old CSDC crewmate- Tony Czar- present work too. Very cool! Learn more here

To feeling fine
I do feel fine, just far from great today. Some aspects of my life are presently *not* shaking out the way I’d hoped they would. But it’s ok. And yes, I do recognize that many aspects of my life *are* in fact turning out v. good. I’ve got that quote in my head-’Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.’ From John Lennon?

Since I’m doing this rare text only post, who’s up for some ranting?!

I find that at my age and older, if you’re single, then it’s either unspoken (or spoken) the ‘whats wrong with him/her’ question. People’s first reaction should/could be- ‘wow, what an independent, cool person. Truly understands that it’s better to be alone than to be with someone not right for them. They obviously don’t settle.’

More Wonderful unspoken- or spoken sentiments of note!
‘You know, it’s a way out’. What? What’s a way out? Having someone to live with? Marriage? I was telling a family member that I preferred having a roommate rather than living alone, and this is what they said. :/

‘Oh, you won’t be single for long’. Meaning people that are good catches or amazing people aren’t single for long? I know 4+ wonderful people who married after 35. Lived quite the long single life.

‘Your family wants to see you get married and have babies’. Really? They believe that’s the true path to happiness for me and them? Hey, it might not happen, and I don’t want any guilt associated with that fact. They’ll worry/feel like somethings missing until I’m spoken for? Life doesn’t truly begin until I’m madly in love? I hope this is b.s. Besides, hands down the coolest member of my extended family is a single guy in his 40s- actually could even be in his 50s. If
the logic is, good catch or life begins when you’re married, then this guy should have been married at 18 and may have a miserable life! (pretty sure he doesn’t)

‘Get on dating sites’. Hmmmm. Diligently, methodically, visa-happily, look for a partner like a job search? Get my ‘relationship resume’ out there? OR live my life and trust that higher powers and/or serendipity will lead me to the right person in the right time more organically. I’m chewing on it…

Ranting done.

OH! one last thing (not a rant). In church the pastor will pray specifically for families, widows, orphans etc. but last week included ‘singles’ to the list. Just something I noticed.

The librarian and I giggle over how my asking to put exhibit A into exhibit B would mean that I’d pretty much take over her trashcan. Note that C is the friendly librarian. And yes, libraries def. kick ass. $.25 for an Inc. magazine. I love it!

Confusion!

Mexican Powdered Milk?
Since I am unabashedly a coffee/coffee shop junkie, I bring you ‘confusion a la coffee run’. After I grab my coffee, I wonder, now, do I add ‘milk’ ‘mexico’ or ‘white’? What kind of choices are these?? And why are they astronaut/powder style? The barista giggles at me and kindly leads me to the condiments/milk counter. Whew! 2%, 1/2 and 1/2, now thats more my speed

Acai (see post title for pronunciation)

So my spam/junk mail is filled with Acai crap on the regular, so I did not expect to find this stuff legit/worthwhile. BUT…..today I’m trying it, and recommend it. The skinny (shoutout to Beach City Smoothies).

it’s found only in the Brazilian Amazon rain forest. (Diane, this means you need to stock up and ship me some!)
it’s like biting into a blueberry, filled with soft, dark chocolate.
unlike the quick energy boost from caffeine, an acai smoothie will give you sustained energy for hours
has anthocyanins, the antioxidants in red wine believed to lower the chances of heart disease, although acai contains between 10 and 30 times more!
zero cholesterol and only 4% fat
oddly, it’s not recommended to pluck the berries from the tree and start snacking (again, Diane, hope you’re reading this )

July 18 festivities!

Yes, I know its almost August. Tough. Also at the moment I’m trying my hardest not to look too much, but I swear the absolute cutest little girl is having milk with her dad next to me.

Here’s why July 18 was great. And why every other day since then has sucked! KIDDING. Started with 2 great classes at the Culture Shock Dance Center, then to Armory Hip Hop clothing store for a sweet new tee, a quick bite at In and Out, then met w/Vinay and Sapana for Hop-Fu hip hop show (basically a live score while a viewing of the Prodigal son)-great turntablists from NYC- let me give them a proper shoutout- IXL from Brooklyn and Excess from Queens-check them and the project out at hop-films.com , then Indian Food and free dessert from our neighbors. Pic of the free tee-shirt at Hop Fu Sapana caught. Except it’s XL and not my style. Any takers? Also I explained to my new buds that you know you’re at an authentic hip hop event since they were giving out free red bull . Pic of the taaaasty cake we conned our way into getting a few slices of.

signs outside of the hotel pops and I stayed in, in san diego. Right near my SD dance studio, too. Oh, and is it worth mentioning a gargantic adult entertainment bar is across the street from these signs…

Met the artist!

Pic 1 and 2 are from a fantastic lil coffee shop in Carlsbad. Nice way to feature the artist, I thought.

Pic 3 is all duck tape. Love it. Big ups to David Fobes, the artist, the one I esp. like is the one on the left , its called ‘A study of recurring anxieties’. Made in 2009. This was in a room next the the library, by the way. Go figure.

Pic 4, from the awesome Carlsbad farmers market. Very cool. I’m going back to this woman and getting a slick dress! (Probably the center mannequin one)

Pic 5, in a smoothie shop, with free wifi of course, check out the right most column. So the kid is in the shop, with his grandmother, who had no idea he had multiple peices up. I love how the top peice is basically a disaster photo- a kid running and screaming from a shark. haha. Dare I say its better than the disaster series artwork I gave my former boss, Amy.
